Run the scenic parkways around Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun in the #1 ranked park system in the United States!

The Jeff Winter City of Lakes Half Marathon provides a great stand-alone challenge or a perfect training test for those running Twin Cities Marathon or other fall marathons. Selected to host the 2017 Minnesota Half Marathon Championship and a USATF Minnesota Team Circuit event. 

Race Details

The field is limited to 1,500 entrants and the 2017 race is expected to fill! Register early to secure your spot in this classic Minnesota half marathon.  The course is traffic free and run mostly on the parkways surrounding Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun and finishes at the Lake Harriet Bandshell. Each mile is marked and water and powerade is available at least every 5K. There is a three hour time limit. Entries are neither transferable nor refundable after issue. 



8:00 AM Sharp! Race Start Line will be at Beard's Plaisance, which is just south of 45th Street and the tennis courts.  Parking in the area is limited. Please plan accordingly. 

Chip Timing

Runners will receive net times as well as clock times, along with the certified 10 mile split.


1M, 5K, 10K and 10 mile. Half Marathon is USATF certified.

Finisher Goodies

All participants will receive the classic City of Lakes mug and a finisher medallion.


We have pace groups to help you reach your goal time. The goal finishing times are: 1:30, 1:35, 1:40, 1:45, 1:50, 1:55, 2:00, 2:05, 2:10, 2:15, 2:30, 2:45.

They will also be available on Sunday, September 10, between 6:30 AM and 7:45 AM. Look for us near the tennis courts at Beard's Plaisance, near 44th and Lake Harriet Parkway West.

Age Group Awards

Given to the top two male/female finishers in the following brackets: 19-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+.

$100 cash for any new Minnesota single-age record in the half marathon.

Team Awards

Cash awards will be presented to the first-place and second-place men's and women's USATF five-person teams. USATF team scoring rules will be used. Note: A team affiliation must be indicated by entrants on their entry at the time of registration to be eligible for inclusion on a USATF team.

Prize Money

Cash awards to the first male and female finisher. Cash awards to the first male and female master finishers. $100 cash for a new Minnesota half-marathon record.

2017 Overall Prize Purse:

  • First place male and female - $500
  • Second place male and female - $200
  • Third place male and female - $100

2017 Masters Prize Purse: 

  • First place masters male and female - $200
  • Second place masters male and female - $100
